Finding Stillness
Every morning I wake to a breathing body. I pause and wait, even if I did wake to the alarm. I scan my body and feel how it is. I move a little and consciously breath in this beautiful quiet time. I take these moments to become centred for the day with a breath or guided practice or a meditation.
This slow gentle start, this pause, gives me energy and a focus. It is my time to create an intention for the day, an intention that will support it being a day of nourishment.
What am I Learning
Treaty, Voice and Truth Telling.
I am learning much about my home land; stories never told, issues never discussed and history distorted.
The Referendum will be in just a few months. I believe I have a responsibility to myself and to my community to make an informed vote. I am researching, discuss it with friends, family and colleagues. I am reading, going to public debates and listening to discussions.
I do like a good podcast and I think this is worth listening to: Sarah Wilson and Thomas Mayo "... talk through the basics and drill down into the counterarguments..."

Yoga Therapy
I think of Yoga Therapy as a comprehensive and integrated approach to so many aspects of health and well-being. I often call it Lifestyle Health as it supports the whole body to restore balance.
Yoga is the union and within yoga therapy we explore and blend all aspects of our self. The more familiar aspects of yoga; movement, breath work and meditation and extend this to consider other aspects of the self; the environment and lifestyle, including food from a western and Ayurvedic perspective.
Building Better Bones is an example of how I apply yoga therapy. Here I blend posture, balance and movement with nutrition, lifestyle, breath work and rest practices.
Similarly, I have used a range of practices, individually selected, for clients with asthma, Parkinson’s, brain injury and Long Covid. We embrace the body, let go of judgement and settle the nervous system using a gentle and non challenging approach.
If you would like to discuss how I can assist you in your search for an inner balance, let’s arrange a 30 minute FREE phone consult.
Sound - what I am listening to?
Pico Iyer is a travel writer, author of The Art of Stillness. This interview (another with Sarah Wilson) discusses the paradox of our desire to go out and explore foreign lands and our need for stillness, the delicate dance between our outer and inner lives.
As many around me have returned to travel, and I too shall return to Zambia shortly and again in May 2024 with my Yoga Safari. For me the adventure of travel combines the curious with a search for stillness. If you are also interested in these opposing forces you may enjoy this and like me be adding Pico Iyer to you reading list, if he is not already.

Taste - what I am eating?
Sight - what am I seeing?
Hang out with yourself.
More about finding the quiet; it really is a theme in these wintering months. Here is an article that resonated with me.https://theconversation.com/friday-essay-what-is-time-activism-and-why-do-we-desperately-need-it-202750?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Latest%20from%20The%20Conversation%20for%20May%2019%202023%20-
Smell - what I am smelling?
Epsom salt baths with essential oil. I select a calming fragrance to help induce sleep. Lavender remains my favourite to help me 'nod off'.
Touch - what am I feeling?
I am using skin and hair products that are natural and ‘local’, where possible. My skin is loving the products of My Shay, lip balm, deodorant, soap and body butter. Available online or through selected health food stores, chemists and organic grocers in Tasmania https://www.myshayorganics.com Disclaimer, this product is made by a friend.
